  1. Thanks Sameer. You have compiled a great information here regarding Borivali schools. If you happen to know anything about NRI Quota in these schools, could you please share the information?

  2. Thanks, am happy that the information was of use to you. When I had personally visited these schools last year, I did not get the impression that getting admission to the schools would be difficult, other than for the more "famous" ones like St. Francis, BES Educ Society or Don Bosco. Otherwise, for most schools, admissions were open on a first come first served basis. So whether or not there is NRI quota in specific, I do not know, but I do not think that makes a big difference to chances of admission. The first decision that you need to make is - which board do you want to admit your little one to.

  3. Hi Sameer

Thanks for this information. By any chance have you ranked these schools on certain parameters, if yes, can you share the same.
Also which schools you chose for your kid

    1. Hi Mamta, I would best advice you to visit the school if you are targeting that school for your kids education. That said, I hold two personal opinions, which I will share:
      1. I do not prefer all-boys school or all-girls school. When the society-at-large is a mixed society, I believe that education should be a reflection of this society and therefore not segregated by gender.
      2. Mary Immaculate is a "well-known" school, and so if you decide on this school, I am sure you would not face any issues around the quality of education.
      Good luck,
      Sameer

    2. Children should be like nurturing lots of dreams in their eyes and having firm confidence in them to fulfill their dreams & at the initial stage of their study schools must teach them how to see a dream & what are the proper way to live that dream.

    3. Yes, true Anthony. And this requires constant involvement of parents. In these days, where both parents work, child education and growth is largely outsourced to schools, day cares and in some cases dada-dadi or naana-naani. I am not criticizing this, merely stating a fact. Given that weekdays are an impossible run, it is even more important that the parents spend QUALITY time with their children during weekend, if they want to see the children grow up to realize their full potential.

  6. Its very useful information given, specialy for the parents who is migrated from other cities. I am also looking a good school for my son. I am still confused in education bord as i studied in ssc bord gujarat, now i am not able to figure out which bord is good for my child.

    1. That's a classic question - which board. "Our" generation will typically say - we have been to SSC board, and we have turned out just fine.
Personally, what matters most is not the board, but the school itself. Most parents from India tend to think that rigour is a synonym for learning. Unfortunately, the kind of rigour that schools practice is something which kills the natural inquisitiveness and love of learning for many kids.
Anyway, cutting the chase, I will come to your question. I think CBSE board is a good one, because CBSE schools all over India have a common curriculum and if you get transferred then your kid will not have a problem. Also, since CBSE board keeps evolving the syllabus, you can be reasonably sure that best schooling practices would be introduced sooner or later into the CBSE methodology.
Having said this, what really matters is also that you do not "outsource" the teaching to schools and ensure that you spend around 1 hour each day dedicated to your child around homework and learning.

    1. Hi,
Its a fairly good school, in the sense that I have not heard anything adverse about this school. They are well established, have infrastructure including adequate school buses and is "well set" in terms of daily routine.
Of course, you would appreciate that I have not adopted any rigorous system to evaluate schools. I had put together this blog more as a information resource for schools in and around Borivali.
Good luck on your ward's admission.

      Cheers!

  9. Thank you Nilima. This is only a compilation of information that I had anyway, and with blogs and internet, the democratic thing to do was to share the information. That's what I did.
Every day, I myself consume a lot of information put up by others via Google Search. So it only makes sense that I contribute some back, where I have a chance.

    Cheers!

    1. Hi Nilesh,
I do not have specific information on the two schools you have posted in your question. However, if you would like to visit these schools and inquire, and then add a note on these schools on a comment on this blog, then that may be useful to others who browse by.

      Cheers,
      Sameer

  12. Convent schools have state board syllabus. CBSE schools are very few compare to other schools. For IB or IGSCE or ICSE , not sure about Indian graduation study options. So, which board can be best suitable for Indian graduation?

    1. Hi Sandesh,
This is a very broad question, and cannot be answered accurately without taking into account your individual circumstances. Also given the fact that it has been 13 years (and counting) since we are trying to implement a system across India where students are no penalized simply because of the board they come from!
Assuming law remains the same as now, and assuming you will continue to be in Maharashtra at the time of your ward's grade 12, you may want to consider that Maharashtra has one of the highest number of engineering colleges and a number of good colleges in other streams of study (commerce, arts, science, etc.). In this case, SSC is an attractive option.

    1. Hello Vaishali,
My kid has grown up now, and I am no longer actively keeping track of schools around the region and their quality. I am going to suggest - the best way of getting the best school for your daughter is first do your research online, short list 4-5 schools, then take the effort to visit each of those personally, and if possible speak with their principals. That will hopefully make the decision easier.

      Cheers!
